New to Malaysia

Together Everyone Achieves More

New to Malaysia?

A starter guide for your first weeks. Rules change, so always confirm with the official source.

🛂

Immigration & passes

Check pass and visa requirements only with official sources. Malaysia’s Expatriate Services Division publishes official notices at esd.imi.gov.my. Keep your passport and pass valid and carry copies of your documents.

🏛️

Indian consular services

For passport, attestation and other consular services, use the official website of the High Commission of India, Kuala Lumpur.

🏠

Finding a home

Read the tenancy agreement carefully before signing, confirm who the landlord is, pay deposits in a traceable way and keep every receipt.

🏦

Banking & money

Banks usually ask for your passport and valid pass to open an account. Requirements differ between banks, so ask before you go.

📱

Phone & internet

Prepaid SIM cards must be registered with your passport at an authorised outlet of the mobile operator.

🚌

Getting around

Public transport, e-wallet cards and ride-hailing apps are widely used in the cities. Check the official transport operator in your area for current fares and routes.

🏥

Healthcare

Both government clinics and private hospitals are available. Health insurance is strongly recommended. Ask your employer what cover you have.

🎓

Schools

Options include local, international and Indian-curriculum schools. Visit and ask each school directly about places, fees and documents. TBD – TEAM-recommended contacts to be added.

🚨

Stay safe

In an emergency call 999 (or 112 from a mobile). Beware of scams, keep copies of your documents, and read our Disclaimer.
