TEAM’s Contribution During the COVID-19 Pandemic
The COVID-19 pandemic presented extraordinary challenges for expatriates in Malaysia, particularly for daily wage laborers who found themselves without work, income, or access to basic necessities. As uncertainty loomed and lockdowns restricted movement, many faced the grim reality of hunger and financial distress. In this time of crisis, TEAM emerged as a beacon of hope, ensuring that no Telugu expatriate was left to struggle alone.
Recognizing the urgent need for support, TEAM swiftly mobilized its network of dedicated volunteers across Malaysia. With an unwavering commitment to service, they organized and executed large-scale grocery distribution drives, providing essential food supplies to those in dire need. The relief packages included staple items such as rice, dhal, potatoes, onions, chili powder, salt, and cooking oil—ensuring that families had access to nutritious meals despite the hardships they faced.
This initiative was made possible through the generosity of donors and the tireless efforts of volunteers who braved the challenges of the pandemic to extend a helping hand. From sourcing provisions to coordinating deliveries, TEAM’s dedicated members worked relentlessly to reach countless Telugu expatriates, offering not just food but also a sense of security and community during a period of immense uncertainty.
Beyond alleviating hunger, TEAM’s efforts reinforced the deep-rooted values of unity, compassion, and resilience that define the Telugu community in Malaysia. Ugadi – The Grand Telugu Festival

2024 Highlights

Blood Donation Camp (April 4, 2024) A lifesaving initiative where TEAM collaborated with healthcare providers to encourage blood donation. This effort helped replenish blood banks and support Malaysian healthcare needs.
VISTARANG 2024 (November 2024) TEAM proudly represented the Telugu community at this prestigious cultural and educational event organized by VIKAS International School. It showcased the richness of Telugu heritage through art, music, and literature.
Bathukamma Celebrations (September 2024) A vibrant and colorful festival dedicated to honoring Telangana traditions. The event featured floral arrangements, folk songs, and cultural performances, emphasizing the role of women in preserving cultural heritage.
Exclusive Telugu Property Exhibition (August 2024) The first-ever real estate exhibition tailored for Telugu expatriates, providing insights into property investments in Malaysia and India. This initiative aimed at helping expatriates make informed real estate decisions.

2023 Highlights

Ugadi Celebrations (March 22, 2023) A grand celebration of the Telugu New Year featuring cultural performances, traditional cuisine, and rituals that brought together the Telugu community for a joyous gathering.
Spiritual Sessions with Sri Guru Chinna Jeeyar Swami (August 2023) A spiritually enriching event where Sri Guru Chinna Jeeyar Swami shared wisdom, guidance, and teachings, providing the community with a profound sense of peace and enlightenment.
9th International Day of Yoga (June 21, 2023) In collaboration with the High Commission of India, TEAM organized a large-scale yoga session at Batu Caves Temple Premises, promoting physical and mental well-being among the expatriate community.

2019 Highlights

Badminton Tournament A highly competitive and engaging sports event for kids, men, and women across all categories, promoting sportsmanship, fitness, and teamwork within the Telugu community.
Cricket Tournament A thrilling sporting event that saw enthusiastic participation from Telugu expatriates, fostering a spirit of teamwork, competition, and camaraderie.
Rescue & Repatriation (November 2019) TEAM played a crucial humanitarian role by providing food, shelter, and support to stranded Indian workers, including Domokonda Anjaiah, who had been misled by agents. Over a span of 15-20 days, TEAM ensured their safety and assisted in their repatriation back to India.

Through these significant initiatives, TEAM continues to serve as a pillar of support for Telugu expatriates in Malaysia. Whether through cultural celebrations, sports activities, professional networking, or humanitarian efforts, TEAM remains steadfast in its mission to nurture unity, promote well-being, and strengthen the Telugu identity in Malaysia.

Helping Hand Initiative

TEAM has been a pillar of support for Indian expatriates in Malaysia, extending its assistance beyond the Telugu community to aid those in need across all Indian ethnic groups. Through dedicated humanitarian efforts, TEAM has stepped in during moments of crisis, providing critical aid, shelter, and financial support to individuals and families facing hardships.

One of the most notable cases was the unfortunate passing of Shaik Galib, a Telugu expatriate who lost his life due to health issues in Malaysia. TEAM, in collaboration with the Indian High Commission, worked diligently to ensure that his final rites were carried out with dignity, offering financial and logistical assistance to his grieving family. The organization recognizes the challenges that Indian expatriates face when dealing with medical emergencies, and it continues to be a reliable source of aid for those struggling to cope with unforeseen circumstances.

Another example of TEAM’s unwavering commitment to humanitarian service is the case of Madhusudhan, a migrant worker who suffered a devastating workplace accident, resulting in the loss of his hand. With no immediate family support in Malaysia, Madhusudhan was left in a vulnerable situation. TEAM took swift action, coordinating with the Indian High Commission to arrange for his safe return to India. Furthermore, through the generosity of donors, TEAM facilitated the provision of a free artificial limb, helping him regain his independence and mobility.

Beyond individual cases, TEAM actively supports stranded Indian workers, providing them with food, shelter, and repatriation assistance. Many workers arrive in Malaysia with hopes of a better future but fall victim to fraudulent recruitment practices, leaving them jobless and without proper documentation. TEAM has taken a proactive approach in addressing such issues by working closely with authorities and social organizations to provide relief and assistance. By offering temporary shelter, legal aid, and travel arrangements, TEAM has helped many Indians return safely to their homeland.

Additionally, TEAM has been instrumental in organizing medical camps, emergency financial aid programs, and social support initiatives for Indian expatriates in need. Whether it’s arranging medical treatment for a critically ill patient, funding education for underprivileged children, or supporting families affected by job losses, TEAM continues to embody the spirit of compassion and unity.

Amnesty Program – Helping Expats Return Home

In response to the Malaysian Government’s Amnesty Program, “Program Back For Good,” which ran from August 1st to December 31st, TEAM stepped forward to assist Indian expatriates living illegally in Malaysia. With the generous support of APNRT, TEAM facilitated the safe return of hundreds of expatriates, ensuring they could reunite with their families in India without financial burden.

Recognizing the difficulties faced by those without legal documentation, TEAM coordinated with authorities and social organizations to streamline the repatriation process. Thanks to APNRT’s sponsorship, the penalties and flight tickets for Telugu expatriates were covered, providing a much-needed lifeline for those struggling to find a way home.

To further spread awareness about the program, TEAM hosted a live session on TORI (www.teluguoneradio.com) on August 25th, featuring Mr. Bhavani Shankar, CEO of APNRT. This informative session helped many expatriates understand the amnesty process and take advantage of the opportunity to return safely.

Through this initiative, TEAM reaffirmed its commitment to humanitarian support, ensuring that no Indian expatriate was left stranded. By working closely with government agencies, donors, and volunteers, TEAM successfully helped numerous individuals navigate legal complexities and secure a safe passage home.

These initiatives are a testament to TEAM’s dedication to serving the Indian community in Malaysia.
